Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych said he will personally monitor the implementation of national investment projects, when speaking to the members of the president's economic reform committee in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"I would like to propose to the Economic Reform Committee that these projects be implemented under my control... I'll keep this issue under tight control. I'll work as the president on the one hand, and as executor on the other hand, because I'll also assume responsibility," Yanukovych said at a meeting of the committee on Wednesday.
He suggested that the government also had to assume certain risks in such projects. He said that a signal to investors should be guarantees from the state and, in particular, the government, that it would assume the financing of "a certain part of these projects."
The head of state also instructed Prime Minister Mykola Azarov to include national projects in Ukraine's social and economic development program for 2011. Yanukovych said that national projects should be presented in the near future.
